Deskpins & Afloat – windows on top for PC or Mac.
I was struggling to copy information from the address book on my Mac to my Contact Management programme.
Also recently, I’ve been attempting a similar task on my PC.
The problem is that every time I start typing in the Contact area, the address book window disappears and I have to bring it back up for the next bit of information.
What a pain.
So off I went in search of a solution and here’s what I found:
Deskpins for Windows
Places a very small programme in the system tray that you click to pick up a pin, then click the window to pin it on top of others.
The cursor even changes to a little pin! Brilliant!
Your window then stays on top of others with a coloured pin in the top right corner.
To unpin, just click the pin. Simple.
Works on Windows 95
through to Windows 7.
Afloat for Mac
This gives you a few options for your current window, including making it transparent (awesome!) so you can see text in the window below and making the window float above all others.
Choices are made from the “Window” dropdown menu.
Available versions for
‘Snow Leopard’ (Mac OS X 10.6) and
‘Leopard’ (Mac OS X 10.5).

Alfoat does not work with Skype.
Thanks for that tip Jessica – does the Skype window get covered over?
